The Brief

This wasn’t completely straight forward. We were to come up with a design that was similar theme across all three establishments but different enough to distinguish between them. Also, each eatery would have three styles of apron; Front of House, Chef and Prep. Also Front of House had to come in two different sizes.

The customer wanted to use panama fabric where possible and have the aprons follow the colour theme of each pub or restaurant.

The Concept

So, we started with the premier Hand & Flowers using its new copper signage as inspiration on colouring. The customer had already stipulated panama fabric and we kept the same grey as their previous aprons using the copper rust and black as accent colours.

To give these bespoke aprons a more premium feel we added a leather halter with antique brass clips and eyelets.

From this initial design we then modified colours and fabrics for the other styles and restaurants.

The Mock-up & Samples

Before we even think about samples we create a virtual mock-up of each apron with all specifications. This is a great way for our clients to see the finished product allowing them to modify the design if necessary.

Once this was signed off actual samples were created and shipped to the three Marlow restaurants.

Tweeking the Design

Once the samples were received there were very few design changes; aprons and ties a bit longer, chefs apron buckles changed to plastic, that was it. This is where the mock ups do pay off as we didn’t need to resend any new samples. We were good to go.

Hand Made Bespoke Aprons

This job was now passed to our factory floor where the apron components are layed out and cut. With 7 different fabric colours and styles used, time was taken to ensure every part of each apron was cut to spec.

Then it was time to start sewing. The first time with a new apron, especially ones as bespoke as these, takes slightly longer as our team of time served machinists work out the quickest and most efficient way of putting the pieces together. But once into their stride it was heads down to produce the near 400 aprons.

Branding

The branding should match the apron and we chose to do an applique with faux leather. All of this is done in-house to ensure every step of the process is in Kylemarks control.

A Premium Product

These bespoke aprons for Tom Kerridge are a premium product and deserved to be treated as such. Every apron was wrapped individually and boxed in there departments ready to be handed out to the staff.

We are delighted on how these aprons look and hope Hand & Flowers, The Coach and Butchers feel the same. We have now set up a dedicated web portal for each venue to order online when more aprons are needed. This makes it such a simple process to reorder.
